Speaking as an old analog modular synthesist, this looks to me to be purely for show. Real synthesists have patches running constantly, experimenting, testing, evolving the patch(es). I don’t see a patch cord in site. Deadmau5 is a millionaire, so he can afford this stuff but, as I understand it, he does everything on a computer.
So you have nothing about which to feel inadequate. And Buchla components, not Serge? Please …
I was planning on sharing a piece here about some real analog modular synthesis and this gallery has encouraged me to do so. We should try to keep it real.

I’m sorry i dont know much about audio and the such but as i understand these pictures were taken for show and from what i have seen off of other photos and videos from deadmau5 and his associates is that his studio is ussally jam packed with equipment and he has patches (maybe thats the word) running (maybe thats the right verb) connstrantly. i beleive ythey were removed for effect.

I went and found a video of him doing a demo/tour of the synth on youtube. I stand by my original statement: this is all for show. He really has no clue what he’s doing with it.

Nearly every single one of deadmau5’s songs has been made with a hardware synth. The only thing he uses a computer for is the DAW environment and virtual instruments. His actual sound synthesis is done purely with modulars. As “an old modular synthesist” you can say that he doesn’t know what he’s doing, but at the end of the day it has made him a world famous millionaire.

He’s world-famous millionaire who knows how to package himself as an artist. He still doesn’t know what he’s doing with a modular. And frankly, I don’t understand why you give a fuck.
